The War of Spanish Succession was a conflict that lasted from 1701 to 1714. It began whit the death of Charles II of Spain who, not having sons for his extensive physical and intellectual disabilities, proclaimed his heir the grandson of Luis XIV that was Philip of Bourbon. Philip of Bourbon was a prince of France so the European powers could not accept that the France would have extended the power even on Spain. On the one hand there were: England, Portugal, Kingdom of Denmark and Prussia; in the other hand there were: Spain and France. The war took place in Flanders, Germany and Italy. The conflict ended in 1713 with the peace of Utrecht. This peace gave England the monopoly of the slave trade with Spanish America and also was confirmed the renunciation of the claims to the French throne of Louis’s grandson, Philip V of Spain.
